Documentation

Technical writing

A screenshot of a technical service document I wrote for IBM using FrameMaker.
  • Wrote hardware service guides at IBM, training international support engineers to service new machines. This was critical upskilling as new machines were released frequently.
  • Created onboarding and product documentation at Tungsten Network to help new technical hires onboard quickly and efficiently.
  • Documented processes at Orange Logic to help train new employees while also formalising processes through written documentation.
  • Architected the documentation creation, quality, and management processes for the technical team at Orange Logic. This created a scalable structure for all engineers to contribute documentation.

Content editing

The December 2023 edition of IBM's Pride Gateway newsletter: a welcome note with a contents list, a community spotlight, and articles with photos.
An IBM internal newsletter that I wrote, coordinated, and published monthly.
  • Edited technical content created by my global team at IBM, applying structure, coherence, and adherence to IBM style guidelines. This helped the team produce reliable, high-quality documentation.
  • Applied the IBM writing style, IBM Carbon Design System, and IBM accessibility standards to service guides at IBM, producing standardised, enterprise-level documentation.
  • Trained team members and content contributors at IBM and Orange Logic in content style rules, enabling global teams to produce consistent, high-quality content.
  • Wrote, coordinated, and published a monthly DEI newsletter at IBM as lead of a small communication team, reaching more than one thousand internal employees and providing a key channel for company DEI communications.
  • Built an agent-based LLM workflow at Orange Logic to provide writers with feedback on writing style and structure. This helped reduce human editing time by identifying and correcting minor mistakes before peer editing.

Training

Curriculum design

Bloom's Taxonomy (2001 revision) as a pyramid. From the base up: Remembering, Understanding, and Applying (lower-order thinking skills), then Analyzing, Evaluating, and Creating (higher-order thinking skills), each with a one-line description.
I used Bloom's Taxonomy at IBM and other companies to plan learning goals.
  • Reviewed and restructured flat technical documents into training modules at Orange Logic, improving the learner experience and creating a scalable foundation for training.
  • Designed role-based onboarding and upskilling curricula for support engineers at Tungsten Network, matching learning paths to role requirements.
  • Designed topic-based assessments at Tungsten Network, Orange Logic, and IBM, using informal knowledge checks for self-assessment and graded exams to verify knowledge transfer.
  • Built a modular training programme for interns and new team members at IBM. This was a flexible group of training sessions covering our team processes, content creation, and tools we use. This helped our management team see and cover skill gaps, and assign tasks based on completed courses.
  • Created the knowledge ecosystem framework at Orange Logic. This framework helped measure the effectiveness of our documentation and guided how we could improve and manage documentation to promote knowledge transfer in a global organisation.

Instructional design

  • Designed and created training modules for processes, products, tools, and technical skills at multiple companies. The deliverable type depended on the need: written guide, interactive LMS module, video guide, reference sheet, or instructor-led workshop. All modules were based on a needs assessment and had clearly defined learning goals and outcomes.
  • Built interactive technical training in Articulate Storyline at IBM, boosting learner engagement with interactions, knowledge checks, and simulations.
  • Created structural templates for Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, and Camtasia at IBM. This helped standardise our content across our global team, and improved our overall course quality.
  • Built simulated tasks in Adobe Captivate at IBM. These simulations helped engineers preview and practise software tasks before working on a live system.
  • Created an interactive product training in Whatfix at Tungsten Network, guiding users through simple tasks and reducing customer queries about basic navigation.
  • Designed downloadable reference sheets at Tungsten Network, summarising common tasks so that engineers could find answers quickly and refresh their knowledge without repeating a full training course.

Instructor-led training

My students include

  • New employees and team members
  • Support engineers, software developers, QAs, and other technical staff
  • Technical documentation contributors
  • Product staff looking to understand technical elements
  • Taught Java basics to undergraduate and conversion master's students at University College Dublin, building foundational programming skills.
  • Led process and product training sessions in person and online to global audiences at Tungsten Network and IBM.
  • Designed and led practical workshops at Tungsten Network, supplementing self-study modules and helping learners become confident with technology, tools, and processes.
  • Converted in-person training sessions to virtual training during the COVID-19 pandemic at Tungsten Network, keeping training available remotely.
  • Facilitated discussions and invited-speaker talks in person and virtually at IBM.

  • Edited raw footage captured at server sites into training content using Camtasia at IBM, guiding learners through service procedures.
  • Added callouts, voice-over, and closed captioning to training videos at IBM. These help various types of learner benefit from our video content.
  • Created a standardised Camtasia template for hardware service videos at IBM. This helped my global team to produce video content that was aligned to a single standard.
  • Managed video versioning in the CMS at IBM, keeping live content up to date.
  • Designed and built product video tutorials at Tungsten Network. These supplemented LMS courses, giving learners a quick overview of a product or task.

Leadership

Project management

  • Built and managed a Kanban board for tasks at Tungsten Network. This helped manage workflow and increased transparency and tracking of my projects.
  • Created a training dashboard of projects and timelines at IBM, giving management transparent long-term planning, which helped them allocate resources effectively.
  • Set and managed training KPIs at Tungsten Network. This helped management understand where efforts were focused so we could reprioritise if needed.
  • Created monthly training reports at Tungsten Network and Orange Logic, keeping stakeholders informed of current and planned training activity.
  • Worked within the Scrum framework as a software engineer at Paysafe, participating in stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
